WOTLK Gold Farming Guide - Mining

If you've made thus far to the frozen lands of Northrend then you'll probably have realized that things are mighty expensive in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It becomes important, then, to find ways to make some easy wow gold and grow your stash for the time when you decide to splash the cash on a shiny new Mekineers Chopper.

Mining has always been a good source of wow gold even before Wrath of the Lich King. With the release of The Burning Crusade and the introduction of the new Jewelcrafting profession, the demand for the basic mineral ores shot through the roof, along with the price. Even without WOTLK, a low level character can still easily mine a few stacks of copper, relatively quickly and turn it in to the Auction House for a nice profit of several gold a stack.

The introduction of WOTLK has done nothing to dampen the demand for the basic mineral ores, but with the WOTLK expansion there are now three new mineral ores to mine: Cobalt, Saronite and Titanium. All three ores are now in urgent demand from the WOTLK Grand Master Engineer's and Blacksmiths, all looking to craft their high-end gear and Chopper mounts which consume vast amounts of these metals. As a miner, you find a ready market for all your gathered ore and smelted metal bars and earn much gold.

Mining Cobalt

Cobalt (blue colored ore) is an abundant ore found on both starter zones of Northrend - Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord. You'll also find it scattered over Zul'Drak, but you'll need to be at a higher level to survive the zone. In my experience Howling Fjord is the best location when you first hit Northrend. Simply ride or fly around the edge of the peninsula and you'll come across nodes.

Mining Sarsonite

Once you reach a mining skill of 400 you can start to mine Saronite. Saronite (green colored ore) is found widely all in the zones of Icecrown, Sholazar Basin and Stormpeaks. Sholazar is the most mined area as the nodes of ore generally follow a dense ring around the outer edges of the zone. If you have yet to obtain Cold Weather Flying you are limited to Sholazar Basin.

Mining Titanium

To mine Titanium you'll need to be level 450 in mining and have a flying mount as most nodes can be found in Icecrown - and this is a place you don't want to be for too long on the ground! Again, you'll find nodes in the Sholazar Basin and Storm Peaks, but the spawn rates are not great in my experience. Again, you'll need a flying mount for Storm Peaks - or at least a good head for heights!

What no Stone!

Unlike low level ores, there are no drops of stone. Instead, you'll get drops of Crystallized Water, Earth, Fire and Air. The good thing is these also sell for much gold on the auction house.
