Fishing For Snapper Bluefish

Fly fishing for bluefish is an awesome experience. It is something that most citizen have not heard of let alone done. The word "bluefish" regularly conjures up thoughts of the large chopper-like 15 pound blues that are commonly caught out in the oceans in deep waters. Although the larger chopper blues are the best known kind of bluefish that citizen fish for, there is lots of fun to be had fly fishing for their smaller cousins - the snapper bluefish.

Fly fishing for the smaller 2 and 3 pound blues is regularly done in back bays and this formula of snapper blue fishing can be a very rewarding experience. Much like their larger relatives, snapper bluefish wage quite a fight for their size. Pound for pound, I'm not sure it gets any best than hooking up with a 3 pound snapper blue fish on an ultra-light spinning rod or, best yet, a real good fly rod.

I regularly hunt the back bays of New Jersey for these exiguous monsters and things get real fun when I find them. Catching twenty to thirty snapper bluefish is not out of the ordinary on a good day. While most citizen are out on the bay chasing fluke and weakfish, I spend my time chasing schools of snapper bluefish around the bay. If I am lucky adequate to find a school, the action is more than adequate to keep me busy for hours at a time.

If you have never fished for snapper bluefish with ultra-light tackle or with fly-fishing equipment, you are missing out on a amazing experience!
