Copper Weather Vanes

Copper is a traditional and popular material among all other materials used for building weather vanes. Master craftsmen of yesteryears who usually built weather vanes out of carved woods, wanted to reproduce and preserve their works. So, many of them turned to copper as an alternative amongst all metals to make weather vanes, as it is quite malleable.

Intricate details in designing and depicting various shapes reflected the expertise of craftsperson. Their skill was visible in these hand-cast, innovatively designed and carved copper weather vanes. Such copper weather vanes were crafted by coppersmiths by hammering the metal into desired shape or shaped with cast iron molds. Individual pieces were then trimmed by hand and soldered into one complete figure.

Copper weathervanes can be designed according to various ethnic or modern styles, each having a distinct look and appeal of their own. Additional built in copper is required to enrich the look and feel and add volume to the figure. In case of a figurine, such as a cow may have upto twenty-seven pieces, which are separately hammered and then integrated to build the vane. Often other metals such as brass are used to accentuate some parts of these copper vanes and enhance their appearance.

Copper weather vanes are considered to be an essential part of American folk art and some craftsmen still follow the time-honored ways of making them. Antique copper weather vanes are also collected and kept as prized possessions. They are very popular for their burnish and ethnic look enriched by different finishing procedures.

A number of dealers and manufacturers of copper weather vanes are available online. Various items are displayed on their web sites. Food Stores Taking a Hit

We have recently seen the grocery store strikes in California and the attacks on the Industry for anti-trust. We have seen poor performing stocks in this sector for years now. Wal-Mart Super Stores are also making a huge dent in the industry forcing grocery stores to exit markets where they are located too close to Wal-Marts. Recently Winn-Dixie announced it would close 326 stores and cut 22,000 jobs as their CEO Peter Lynch said that the closings would reduce revenue from billion to .5 billion next fiscal year.

dixie chopper mowers

Are these closings going to help the company as it exits poor performing markets or is the company and the industry in a downward sector rotation spiral? Winn-Dixie is cutting heavy in Florida before Hurricane Season and will close twelve stores a seven-County Bay area in Florida. These store closings are Webb Plaza in St. Petersburg; N.W. Plaza and Tampa Market Place in Tampa; Forest Lakes Plaza in Oldsmar; Valrico Square in Valrico; Ridge Plaza in New Port Richey; Northwood Plaza in Clearwater, Palmetto Market Place in Palmetto, Brandon Center in Brandon and one store in Wesley Chapel the company said. It will close 43 stores in the state in the state and keep the highly profitable ones.
Winn Dixie has a few stores in TN, VA, which it intends to exit completely now for distribution streamlining as well as close many stores in North and South Carolina where it has significant market share. Winn-Dixie is also taking out some of its distribution centers in Atlanta, Charlotte, and Greenville and downsizing the one in Montgomery.

DIXIE

This trend of streamlining operations seems to be happening more and more as some non-performing stores are being over taxed by costs of lawsuits, unions and of course the ever present Wal-Mart Super Centers. One question the consumer must be asking is where will I buy food if all these stores keep closing. That answer is Wal-Mart with their superior distribution system and non-union stores. Copper Fountains Will Look New Longer With Proper Maintenance

There are several materials used in the construction of fountains for a home garden and none make for a more beautiful water feature than copper. In addition to the natural beauty of copper, there is a unique sound of the water splashing against the metal walls of the fountain. However, that beauty and soothing sound does come with a price. Copper fountains require much more maintenance than fountains made of other materials.

No matter the style of water fountain you are searching for, you can easily find one made of copper. There are copper fountains for the garden, the tabletop, or even ones made for the wall. You will typically find the copper used in these fountains to have a natural finish or a clear coating. The clear coat is applied in order to prevent the natural oxidation process which causes the copper to turn green. I suppose to some, when copper turns green it is not the look that they desire. If this is the case, then choose one of the fountains that have the clear coating applied and clean it periodically by applying furniture polish. Be sure to use a soft cloth for the application as copper is a softer metal and can easily be scratched. You can also apply car wax every few months which will also help protect the clear coat finish and cause it to last longer thus preventing the oxidation process for a longer period.

CHOPPER PRICES

However, no matter how well the clear coat is applied, or how well your efforts at preventing the oxidation process are carried out, the effects of aging will occur. Oxidation of copper is a natural process and will occur over time no matter how hard you attempt to prevent it. If the green appearance really puts you off, then maybe you should consider some other material in the construction of your water feature.

If you are like me and consider the oxidation process and greening of the copper part of the attractiveness of the metal then you should choose the natural finished copper fountain. If you go this route, when your fountain needs cleaning, just use a non-abrasive cleaner and a soft cloth to remove any build up of grime. Once clean, apply ordinary furniture polish with a soft cloth to help keep the fountain cleaner for a longer period of time.

Outside of these cleaning methods, the maintenance of a copper fountain is much the same as any other water fountain and proper maintenance will help you enjoy its use for years to come. Make sure that you periodically add additional water to the container to compensate for any evaporation that may occur. This is especially critical if you live in an area of the country where there is high humidity. When you clean, be sure to rinse everything thoroughly to prevent any cleaning fluids from entering and possibly damaging your pump. If you live in an area that is susceptible to freezing temperatures, you may want to remove your pump and cover your fountain during the wintertime months. Or, even better and if possible, remove the fountain completely and store in a heated area.

Half Penny Dolls

Half Penny Dolls have been around for many generations. They probably were named for the inexpensive nature of the materials used to make them--bits of wire, wool, and string.

dixie chopper mowers

Half Penny Dolls should not be confused with Penny Dolls, which are dolls carved from wood, also known as Peg Dolls or Dutch Dolls.

DIXIE

Half Penny Dolls are made by bending wire into a body shape, then wrapping the limbs with string. The body is wrapped with wool or fabric. A head is formed from a ball of wool or a wooden bead.

It is possible that the Half Penny Doll originated when a mother busy with her spinning or weaving, and needing a distraction for a demanding child, grabbed a few bits of wool and formed it into a little toy. The dolls became very popular with young girls because they were simple enough for children to make themselves, and provided hours of entertainment just in the process of making and dressing the dolls.

In 2003, Salley Mayvor re-introduced the world to Half Penny Dolls with her book Felt Wee Folk (C&T Publishing). In her book, Salley demonstrates making dolls with pipe cleaners, and dressing them with silk flower petals, wool felt, and acorn hats.

Recently, at a family gathering, we had a doll making workshop. Several nieces, sisters, cousins and aunts, ages seven to fifty, spent the day making half penny dolls. With a few pipe cleaners, scraps of fabric, wooden beads, and crochet cotton, we had a complete doll making factory in the dining room. Imagination blossomed as little girls drew out designs for their dolls and the adults helped them make those design come to life. As well as tiny dolls for keepsakes, memories were created that day.

Half Penny Dolls

I have been making Half Penny Dolls for my daughter to play with for years. They have been some of her favorite playthings. Recently, I have begun marketing my Half Penny Doll designs in kit form. The kits are inexpensive and contain all the materials for making a four inch Half Penny Doll, including the hand-painted face. Tomahawk, Why Should You Buy One?

With all the different axe designs available, what qualities does the tomahawk, often shortened to hawk, possess that would make me buy it? Only an in depth look at the hawk's attributes can give you a clear answer as to whether it is right for you.

The tomahawk was developed by the American Natives, Indians, long before the white man set foot on American soil. The Indians were hunters/gatherers that traveled long distances to find their food. They needed light weight equipment capable of handling more than one task.

CHOPPER PRICES

The original tomahawks were made of larger rock chips that were sharp on one side and secured to a wooden handle. The handle was always straight without an increase in size at the end to aid a secure grip as most European hand axes. Later, the Indians learned to knap rock which made the head much sharper and more useful. These hawks were usually less than two feet in length and weighed one to two pounds which was ideal for easy packing.

Shortly after arrival, the European immigrants realized the tomahawk was better suited to life in the wilderness than anything they had used or brought with them from home. Immediately they adopted the hawk and improved it with their technology. This resulted in tomahawks with either brass or iron heads. These heads could be forged with the tops rounded, squared, hammer faced or as a pipe. The improvements allowed for even greater diversity of uses and increased the chopping efficiency. These tomahawks became one of the top trade items with the various tribes.

The tomahawk from origin till now has always had a cutting edge of four inches or less. This is significant since the battle axes of the Mediterranean and Europe were made with much bigger and more curved cutting edge. The battle axe was designed for the sole purpose of cutting flesh. The hawk was designed with more versatility in mind. The smaller cutting edge may have decreased the awe factor but did not seem to decrease its effectiveness as a weapon. One should remember that the battle axe was generally used alone whereas the tomahawk was used with knives, bow and arrow, spears, gun or some combination of these.

The tomahawk was virtually unchanged until the 1960s and the Vietnam War. The new hawk was designed to be used primarily as a close combat weapon with some capability as a chopper. The heads of these hawks were designed with a spike on the side opposite the cutting edge to increase its effectiveness as a weapon. Slight variations from the original have been introduced by different manufacturers. All tomahawks are fearsome weapons as evidenced by our forefathers, but the Vietnam Tomahawk and its offspring raised the bar. These hawks are still used by some of our military units.

Today, your can buy tomahawks of vastly differing quality and prices ranging from a few dollars to several hundred dollars. Some of the low end hawks are for display only or made to sell to the unsuspecting that do not want to spend a lot of money. Cheap prices and being manufactured in countries such as Pakistan that are known for producing poor quality steel items should be avoided unless you want it for display only. Generally, very fancy looking units fall into this category as well.

Many reputable companies such as Cold Steel, Condor, SOG and others produce excellent quality tomahawks at reasonable prices. Most of these are drop forged and have outstanding metallurgy. They have a very hard and sharp cutting edge for chopping or sticking when thrown at targets. Often the head above the edge is softer to absorb the shock from the strike.

Hand forged hawks are generally made by custom knife and axe makers. These hawks are top quality but carry a much higher price tag due to the man hours involved. If you do not know much about the companies or products, get advice for someone that does and you can trust. Remember, buyer beware!

Consider carefully your planned end use and the qualities necessary to meet that use when you get ready to buy. Remember, the tomahawk is easy to pack and functions well as a chopper, stake driver, hammer, and is a fearsome close combat weapon that can be thrown. If the qualities mentioned above match your list, you should definitely buy the tomahawk designed with you in mind.

How Colors Affect Your Heart Rate

Most people love color and want to paint every room in their house. Others don't care for it at all. If you are thinking of repainting you need to keep one thing in mind. Colors can effect out mood and make us sad or happy; they affect our eating habits and even our heart rate. Most people don't put this much though into color and what is does to us. It is proven that several colors actually raise our heart rates while others can lower it. Take into mind which color to paint a room with what you will be doing in that room. If you are repainting a room that you are going to use to relax in you will want to use a color that will lower your heart rate. If you are painting your home gym you will want one that will raise your heart rate. The color red and the color yellow can actually raise your heart rate while blue and purple lower it.

dixie horn

While yellow can raise your heart rate it can also improve your concentration which is why legal note pads are yellow. Yellow would be a very good color choice for a home office or a hobby room. The color red is a tricky color; it can raise your heart rate and evoke passion and energy or is can make you frustrated or angry. This color is a popular choice in bedrooms or accent walls. If you use this as an accent wall you will be able to have a more muted reaction to it. If you are looking to repaint a living room or dining room think about what you want the mood to be in there. If you want an energetic and vibrant living room go with a bolder color like yellow.

DIXIE

But if you want a more relaxed casual living room to kick back in then think blues and greens and purples. It is very important to think about what mood you want for a room and what you do in that room before you repaint. Keep in mind that colors can really change how you feel especially if you are looking at them on a daily basis. Whichever you choose make sure to have a variety of rooms. You will want a relaxing room every once in a while and you will want a high energy room as well.

Copper Sink

If you are considering a new sink within your kitchen or bathroom, a copper sink may be the way for you to go. Many people are choosing copper sinks over other traditional styles such as porcelain. The reason the popularity of copper sinks has grown so drastically is because not only does it have a simplistic beauty unmatched by any other style, it is also extremely functional within the kitchen. The great thing about copper sinks is that they are virtually maintenance free, if it needs cleaned water and soap will do the trick.

Chemical cleaners are a thing of the past when it comes to copper sinks, they do not require harsh cleaning and with care its beauty will last a lifetime. Another positive aspect of copper sinks is that unlike many other types of sinks, these tend to grow in beauty over time. With age, the copper sink will change its color, however, if you do not want the color to change, you can simply use a furniture or brass wax to prevent it. Copper sinks makes things a whole lot easier on your life.

CHOPPER PRICES

Another great aspect of the copper sink is that it is overall cleaner and more sanitary than other material types. Copper is a natural elemental that contains antibacterial benefits, therefore bacteria and other harmful substances cannot hope to survive on copper. In a study performed on, stainless steel and copper, it was shown that copper is extremely sanitary by comparison. Thanks to the antibacterial benefits of copper, a bacterium that is found on the copper will not live any longer than one to two hours.

When purchasing a copper sink you will want to look for a few specific things. Make sure you consider the décor and look of your home; this will help you understand the type of copper sink you will want. Another thing is to make sure the copper sink is made by hand and not manufactured in a factory somewhere; this will help ensure that you are getting a quality copper sink for your home.

When it comes down to actually purchasing your copper sink, make certain you are purchasing a copper sink of high quality. Yes, price is an important factor for everyone today, however remember the old saying, "You get what you pay for". This saying holds true with copper sinks as well. The cheaper a copper sink becomes, the less copper it is actually made of. Cheaper copper sinks are typically made of recycled copper, this means that the copper comes from machines or computers that used copper. This further means that the copper used in your copper sink, could only be 90% pure or even less.

Back From Ecuador

Would you have guessed? We have already booked our ticket back to Ecuador in June. The air travel is quite expensive, but so long as you stay in Ecuador for a reasonable period, the lower costs-of-living quickly compensate for the high travel costs ' stay for 60-90 days and it is about break-even. But any successful opportunities sourced soon make the trip very viable.

dixie horn

It has been quite a shock to get used to the higher costs here in Australia fuel, food, clothes, accommodation, entertainment. I think we became very accustomed to living on the other side of the world, in comfort with relatively very few dollars being expended. It really is true that a couple can live easily on less than ,000 year ' and that includes rent. The requirement to get a "retirement residency" is that a person has to prove that they get at least US0 per month as a pension or from superannuation (US0 per couple). The Australian single pension is about US,050 so that easily qualifies (US,780 per couple). That benchmark provides an idea as to what the Ecuador government thinks is required to live adequately.

DIXIE

And the best thing is that we will be able to conduct a business without too much pressure, and we won't have manufacturing issues to deal with. Ecuadorian lifestyles also seem to be much lower pressure than in Australia.

And if you know friends or family who are struggling with coping with lack of cash in their retirement, encourage them to look at other options by living overseas. We now know that it is not always necessary to stay on the treadmill of making more money to afford a high cost of living. Another option is to live in a low cost environment and reduce the pressure on the income requirement. The savings from lower living costs will more than cover a couple of trips back to Australia each year, so living overseas does not mean that retirees have to do without contact with family. And these days with Skype internet communications, they can talk to family every day for as long as they want - for FREE. With video (web cam) you can also visually see loved ones while you speak to each other.

An example of how many people struggle to make ends meet in retirement was illustrated in an article in our West Australian issue of "The Sunday Times" last week. It was pointing out how difficult it is for pensioners to live on AU6.80 per fortnight (AU,000 per year).

"Thousands of impoverished pensioners are rationing their food, going without simple pleasures and doing it tougher than ever before".

This situation would not be the same in Ecuador if the same person lived in that country with the same pension. Quality accommodation can be achieved with just US0 - 0 per month. For a couple, the numbers are even better. That leaves a lot for food, transport and entertainment. Medical and dental is also much cheaper than Australia and insurance can be purchased for less than 0 per month (for over 65 year olds).

Custom Chopper Kits

Choosing the parts that your custom chopper will be made of can be very confusing, considering the large numbers of custom chopper bike kits available on the market today. Chopper innovators like Biker's Choice, Phantom Cycle, Paul Yaffe and many more sell chopper-in-a-box kits available for chopper enthusiasts. Thanks to these kits, custom choppers have become quite affordable and are no longer necessarily toys for millionaires or master mechanics.

Custom chopper kits provide the future chopper owner with all the instructions and just about every component necessary to create a perfect chopper of ones dreams. Jesse James, famous for his Discovery series "Monster Garage", offers a Big Book catalogue loaded with individual parts and accessories needed to create a fully custom bike with truly unusual frame configurations and groundbreaking metal sheet parts as seen on his TV show. However, the most exquisite details, such as an unusual tortoiseshell finish of the gas tank, can be obtained in your custom chopper only if you have your chopper built from scratch by Jesse himself.

CHOPPER PRICES

Before you start building your custom chopper you need to ask yourself what kind of chopper are you interested in building. Then you have to set up a budget for parts, labor and inevitable cost overruns. The price of the parts has scared many chopper enthusiasts from building a custom chopper of their own, but if you have exact specifications and the time and skills to invest into the project, then parts can be fairly inexpensive. If you choose the parts for your kit at the lower end spectrum, you will still end up with bike that will look like a Jesse James creation but will still have enough money left to throw a party when your new chopper leaves the garage.

When you select the parts for your custom chopper kit, try to use the most genuine parts available on the market within your price range. Sometimes even if you have a beautiful design in-mind, you can end up with poor-looking chopper, due to a lack of attention to detail by different suppliers

Complete custom chopper kits typically consists of an engine, chassis kit, exhaust pipes, tires, steel tanks and other metal parts, taillights, various controls, a seat, headlamp and many more. The extras supplied with a chopper kit would vary depending on the brand of chopper chosen. To finish your project, you will need paint and sometimes battery acid. Most chopper kits do not provide mirrors, speedometers or other accessories. These you can buy separately according to your taste.

To avoid unpredictable result, experienced chopper builder recommend waiting until you can afford buying all the accessories from one manufacturer. Waiting may not be easy when it comes to building your dream come true. But when you finally complete your custom chopper, you will be really glad you waited.

Mississippi's Scholarships Geared To Keep Students Out Of Debt

The state of Mississippi likes to say you don't have to go into deep debt to study in the Deep South! It backs this saying up by offering a wide array of grants and loan forgiveness programs. The Magnolia state also has teamed up with a wide array of other groups for merit-based scholarships.

dixie plates

One such group is one of its largest employers, the Nissan Corp. It's open to any local high school grad with intentions of attending a state sponsored two or four-year university. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average and a proven record of community service. Nissan awards different amounts to a different number of students each year.

DIXIE

Another organization Mississippi has teamed up with is the NAPA Corp, best known for producing tarmac. Entitled the Research and Education Foundation Scholarship Program, it is open to all Magnolia State students of civil engineering or construction management. They can be enrolled anywhere from a fully accredited university to a two-year vocational school. This is a purely academically-oriented scholarship and does not consider financial need. It can cover all tuition.

Another academically oriented scholarship program that Mississippi participates in is administered by EMU. To qualify for this program, a student must have a 3.5 grade cumulative average over the last three years. It will award as much as ,600 per academic year to be used at any school or degree program, except schools in Ohio and Michigan.

For those who like to stay closer to home, there is the Mississippi Eminent Scholar Program. This one looks like it comes from Mississippi itself. The applicant must have a 3.5 cumulative average, and the ,500 award must be used at a state-sponsored school. It must also be for a full-time, four-year degree program.

Probably one of the most original scholarship programs Mississippi participates in is with Dixie Youth Baseball. It's open to any child who participates in one of its leagues. The group openly admits its awards are neither based on academics or good citizenship, but just for playing the grand old game. Instead, each team selects a player and fills out a nomination form. From there, the Dixie Youth Baseball commissioners select the winners. They receive a one-time ,000 award.

Lastly, Mississippi also has its version of the Robert C. Byrd Honors program. Mississippi's version goes to high school students who earn as close to a 4.0 grade point average as possible. SAT and ACT scores are also considered. Recipients are selected by their high school officials. Again, if selected, the student receives ,500 to any school in the United States. It is also renewable.

Mississippi's Scholarships Geared To Keep Students Out Of Debt

What is consistent about Mississippi's scholarship programs is that the state went out of its way to find outside organizations to help reward deserving students. It doesn't matter if it's from a company who also is one of the state's largest providers of jobs or from a sports organization. What underlies it all is the state is backing up what it claims by finding ways for its citizens to not go into debt in order to get an advanced education. By obtaining scholarships and grants, sometimes it is possible for students to get all of their educational costs covered, whether they are enrolled in a full course load or just taking a course online.

Copper Penny Cleaning Science

As some of you will know that before 1970's mostly copper was used to make coins and after that they started to use zinc as the more common product in the making of coins. So we are discussing copper penny cleaning science. As naturally the coins that are old and have been long in circulation will be dirtier and will need cleaning as compared to newer coins so specifically copper science is more important to discuss.

But remember all these methods may not be successful always and can also end up damaging your penny. So approach carefully and do the task of cleaning carefully. And these techniques are for the old coins which are not collectibles. The process is to clean old coin whose value is not more then their face values. Never use the methods if you are a collection enthusiast and collect the coins as a hobby or want to sell them for multi million dollars. Using any of the below copper penny method might reduce its value. The first cleaning science method is the cheap and most effective method.

CHOPPER PRICES

It includes the use of vinegar and salt. Add some salt into vinegar in a bowl and then put the dirty copper penny in it for a few minutes and you are done. Simple yet effective and one of the most famous method. For now concentrating on home ingredient copper penny cleaning science methods another way you can get your pennies clean at home is by using an eraser. Just get a simple eraser and rub the penny with it see how much effective this simple technique can be.

Now with the simple and basic copper penny method discussed we will discuss some unknown ways that can be very useful in cleaning pennies. First cleaning science way could be the use of taco sauce. The method is simple take some taco sauce rub it on the pennies and then remove it after a few minutes and you will have your penny much cleaner then before it was. But here too it is believed that the vinegar and salt in the ingredients are the main reason for the cleanliness.

There are also some commercial cleaners available in the market but we will not recommend them to you as most of them are not good enough for the price you have to pay for them. There are also a few other far fetched penny cleaning techniques that are available but not recommended by us. One of the copper penny cleaning science method is to drop it in some soft drink (Coke or Pepsi) and see the effect after a few minutes.

But all these cleaning science may not be needed at all in some cases. First of all just clean the penny with water and a cloth and if it is clean enough for you why handle all the fuss for more cleanliness. It's just a penny after all.

Fine tuning your shopping list

Coupons are a great way to save at the register. Manufacturers, promoting their products make coupons available to the consumer. Many times, the store will have a store coupon for the same product, which can be coupled with the manufacturers coupon to give even a greater savings. Be on the lookout for these coupons that can usually be found in your Sunday newspaper ads. They alone have helped me save a tremendous amount over the years.

Another great way of saving is to make use of the 2 for 1 sales that most groceries today hold. For the price of one you receive a second item. In my area I have Winn Dixie, Publix, and Sweetbay. Each of these groceries hold the 2 for 1 sales, although, I prefer the Winn Dixie sales the best. I think they provide the customer with the greatest number of items when running these sales.

Don't forget about free samples. Many manufacturers, in promoting their products to the consumer will provide free samples, It is a great marketing tactic for them and a cost savings for the consumer. Be on the look out for these free samples and stock up on them when ever you can.

The last item on my list is fine tuning your shopping list. To me it is the most important of all of the items. By fine tuning your list you make sure that you are going to get all that you need and not make any unnecessary purchases. Once you make that list and fine tune it make sure that when you do go to the grocery that you adhere to that list. It is easy to get sidetracked by the stores marketing practices. Believe me they have the marketing game down to a science and it is very easy to fall into the marketing trap. Be aware of the marketing tactics used and by all means stick to that list you made before leaving home.
If you follow the above tips for grocery shopping you will be able to save money on each and every trip to the grocery. For more information on savings visit Stretch-Your-Food-Dollar.

Try Something New In The Kitchen With A Copper Countertop

Savvy home renovators will surely tell you of the kitchen countertop's ability to utterly transform a kitchen space. Depending on the material that you choose, installing a kitchen countertop can maximize the dollars you have spent on design and set the overall tone of the space and the home in general.

Of course, most people choose those materials that are traditionally used today - everything from ceramic tile and stone to laminate and granite. But the copper countertop has also become a popular yet unconventional choice for homeowners looking to change their kitchen countertops.

CHOPPER PRICES

The copper countertop is an unusual way to offset a unique kitchen that you are looking to infuse with sophistication and style. Classic and visually stimulating, copper has enjoyed popularity throughout the generations and is currently making a comeback in homes across the nation.

Most high-end home improvement stores and kitchen retail stores carry the copper countertop - and different styles can be purchased in a wide range of prices. And if price is an issue, homeowners even have the ability today to polish and re-tone brushed metal to resemble copper - but at a fraction of the price of the real material.

If you choose to purchase the authentic copper countertop, you then have the ability to either install the material yourself or hire a professional contractor to do the job for you. Contractors can either be hired through the retailer where you purchased your countertops or through an independent outfit. Just be sure that you are dealing with professionals who are well skilled in handling and installing copper material.

If you choose to handle the installation yourself then there are some things you should consider. First and foremost, working with metals is not the same as working with stone or laminate; if you have never mounted a copper countertop before then you should at the very least attend an instructional class that will give you pointers on how to proceed with the greatest chance of success.

Secondly, having the appropriate tools at your disposal will ensure that the job goes as smoothly as possible. Some of the basic tools required to do the job include a saber saw, drill and bit, block planes, belt sander, C-clamps, safety glasses for yourself, rubber mallet, hammer, level, 10-12 point fine-toothed handsaw, masking tapes, scriber compass, wrench, screwdriver, and sandpaper. Check with the retailer where you purchased your countertops to ensure there are no other materials that you may need.

Finally, it is important to remember that copper is a unique material that must be cared for accordingly. Once your countertop is installed you will want to make sure that you care for it appropriately to maintain its integrity for years to come. Experts recommend using a sealant at the end of the installation process in order to protect the surface of the copper from any eroding materials and scratches - to which copper is especially vulnerable.

The copper countertop may not have been something to which you had given any thought. But it may be just the material needed to complement your décor and bring out the natural warmth in your kitchen and home.

Not Ready To Make Nice

Everybody keeps saying, "What are you doing?" or "You need to get a job."

Last week, I did a salary survey at a salary.com for just my job as housewife and mother. Applying the lowest estimate of time spent per duty, including 0 hours cooking, my compensation should be approximately 3,00 per year. I could write volumes trying to explain, "a woman's work is never done." There are not enough words or time in my life to pen the respects I have for all mothers. What you do right. What you do wrong. What we don't know what to do. How little you are respected. How much of your work unappreciated.

Yesterday, I fought the Atlantic Ocean. I am afraid of the murky waters and what I can't see. Afraid of the unknown. I fought the pounding forces of the waves as I connected my mind with and flexed every one of my abdominal muscles. I tightened through the pain in my liver that still makes me sick. I fought the force of those waves crashing in on me. I would not let them knock me down. I walked through the tide, all the muscles in my legs fighting to take one step forward, then forced three steps back.

Today, I remember the joy of a moment: my teenage friend, Katie, and I standing in the shallow beach of the Atlantic Ocean, both afraid of the water, walking slowly, deeper into our fear and her saying, "It's like life." Yes, Katie it is. But, I'm still mad as hell, 'cause I don't ever want you or another to have to feel the pain of fighting all those waves.

I wouldn't write my words if I hadn't thought them through

I wouldn't desire wisdom from you who are my superior wiser, if I didn't need to teach the lesson in return

You haven't forgotten and not forgiven

I'm not ready to make nice, if you won't listen

I've proved myself

Copper Awnings - Tips on How to Choose Just the Right One

So you've decided to go with the look and durability of copper awnings instead of a cloth awning, but you're wondering what styles and types to choose. Here are several things to consider as you choose the perfect awning for your home or building.

Tip 1: Consider the Architectural Style:

CHOPPER PRICES

The first thing to think about when choosing a copper awning is the architectural style of your home or building. Copper is a very versatile material, so you can choose awnings to match any style.

Some specific architectural style suggestions include:

Victorian style home - choose an awning with ornate details, including carved edges. Contemporary-style home - perhaps you should choose a copper awning with smooth seams and clean lines. Maybe a round dome shape would create the best look. Traditional ranch style home - consider an awning with detailed or raised seams and more ornate iron work.

Tip 2: Evaluate Size and Cost

Copper awnings come in a variety of standard sizes as well as custom sizes - and generally speaking the larger the awning the greater the cost will be. Pricing for awnings will often be based on 48" wide x 24' high as these are the dimensions needed to adequately cover most standard sized doors or windows. However for double entrance doors, larger windows, businesses or other custom applications you may not find what you need under standard sizes and may need a custom quote.

Tip 3: Review Iron Bracket Choices

Copper awnings can include wrought iron brackets. These brackets can have different styles such as the spear, scroll or fleur de lis styles. Mixing the richness of copper with the classic style of wrought iron presents a simple and elegant look. You can even match the wrought iron fence or gate on your property. Would you rather create a classic awning look with nothing but copper? Well, then you can choose a canopy or wedge style with copper sides.

Tip 4: Choose a Color

A unique quality to copper is that it changes appearance over time - or "patinas." As copper is exposed to the elements, it changes color, fading from shiny brown, to darker brown, and eventually to a greenish shade. This patina shell protects the copper interior.

You can choose to treat your copper awnings to maintain that "bright as a penny look". Alternatively, you can use a product to speed up the patina process to create an instant classic, weathered look.

No matter what your taste - find a copper awning style to suit your needs.

Copper is a versatile metal for awnings. By considering the type of exterior you're seeking to accent with a copper awning, your own personal style, your desired copper coverage and color, and of course your budget - you can choose something both stylish and functional. Copper awnings can match any style from traditional to contemporary. Best of all, they do so while providing unmatched durability and protection from the elements.

Do Copper Peptide Hair Treatments Really Work?

During the Second World War, doctors noticed that patients with severe burns or burn scars had a better chance of scar removal if hair follicles began growing at the edges of the burned area. If not, the odds were the scars would remain.

It was determined that new skin cells were being grown in the hair follicles and migrating to the surround damaged skin. From that, the next step was to link skin repair and hair growth.

CHOPPER PRICES

It would take many years for researchers to determine the role copper played in this process. It was eventually discovered that copper peptides stimulated healing of wounds and also increased the size of hair follicles at the wound's edges.

Hair loss has many causes. Among the most common are: the production of DHT, which is responsible for male pattern baldness: progressive shrinking of hair follicles as we age: diminished blood supply to the hair follicles: damage due to hair treatments, overheating, dying, etc: free radicals, especially from iron: inflammation around follicles due to autoimmune responses: and decreased subcutaneous fat in the scalp.

Researchers determined that the copper solutions applied to the scalp increased follicle size: rebuilt the blood supply to damaged follicles: increased melanin synthesis, necessary to keep hair from turning white: increased subcutaneous fat below the scalp, needed to produce thick healthy hair: lengthened the hair growth phase: inhibited the formation of DHT: repaired scalp damage; healed inflammation: and caused the scalp to thicken.

This all leads to a healthy head of hair.

Minoxidil (Rogaine) grows new fine "vellus" hair. Copper peptide solutions convert this fine hair into thicker, fuller, pigmented hair and it is suggested that both be substances be used in combination if you are trying to re-grow hair. The copper peptide has the added benefit of reducing the inflammation and itching caused by minoxidil.

Copper peptide treatments are also beneficial after hair transplants. They speed up healing and cut the growth time of new hair in half to just six weeks. They can prevent hair loss due to chemotherapy if used beforehand or cause it to re-grow faster if used after.

While copper peptide solutions show great promise in hair restoration, one of it chief researchers, Dr. Loren Pickart, thinks its major benefit at this time is as a regular scalp treatment applied once or twice a week to maintain healthy hair and scalp.

Dr. Pickart patented several forms of copper peptides, known as GHK-Cu. He created the Folligen line which is devoted to hair and scalp health, as well as hair re-growth.

Copper peptide hair treatments show great promise in helping you keep whatever hair you still have and aiding in at least creating the proper conditions for new hair to grow. I have run a small, admittedly non-scientific, study of copper peptide hair lotions on a group of friends with thinning hair and all of us have noted a marked increase in the amount and thickness of hair as well as some filling in of the hair line.

Copper peptides are not a miracle product that will give you a full head of hair within days, weeks or months. However they do what they advertise and are not terribly expensive.

The Wonderful Benefits of Using Copper Cookware

The use of copper cookware is the new trend in high end cookware products suited for today's modern home kitchen. It is a practical investment that will make your food preparation simpler and more efficient. But what are exactly the benefits you can enjoy with this cookware product?

Why You Should Buy Copper Cookware

CHOPPER PRICES

Having this product for your home kitchen is a serious investment. And here are the reasons why buying such kitchenware is a must:

The most apparent reason for having such product for your kitchen is due to its eye catching appearance. Copper comes with a very distinctive look and built with a shiny exterior, making it a great addition to any kitchen style. And yet, cleaning and maintenance for these cookware products are really easy. In fact, there are some consumers who prefer the aged look of copper, which no longer require the need to constantly scratch it for a polished look.

However, the benefit of copper pans and other cooking products does not end on the physical and aesthetic aspects. It is a highly functional cookware product that comes with several unique features for easier and better quality cooking.

In comparison to other materials such as glass, stainless steel, or aluminum, this type of cookware distributes heat by as much as ten times. Its high conductivity characteristics enable you to save more energy while cooking since it takes minimal amount of heat in order to get this cookware ready. For many people, copper is simply the best as nothing else could beat copper for conducting heat evenly. This means not only lesser energy to use when cooking with them but also easier and faster cooking. And yet, copper does not hold hot spots unlike stainless steel or tin, which therefore makes it safer to use around the kitchen to avoid accidental burning.

Aside from the ability to conserve energy when preparing your food, the effectiveness of copper when conducting heat evenly reduces the amount of time you spend cooking your food. Hence, you no longer have to spend hours in the kitchen unlike non-copper cooking materials since it cooks food quickly and efficiently.

Finally, copper cookware comes with a different metal lining. This helps to prevent copper from reacting with the food substances during the process of cooking. Thus, you can rest assured that it is safe for you and your family to consume without any harmful reactions. And yet, a lot of those who've used this have taken note of food tasted much better as compared to other materials.

Given the above benefits of buying and using copper cookware for your kitchen, you will certainly get more value for the money you spent. And despite the advent of newer and higher end cookware, this one will remain to be a top choice amongst consumers due to its unique combination of stylish and functional benefits.

The best place to find copper cookware is online where you can find virtual stores that offer such cookware at surprisingly great deals.

The copper pools strip test kit can help keep the chemical levels where they should be when people are using the pool regularly. If you do not use the test kit to check the levels, the pool water can become unsafe. The test strip will test the pH levels. If the levels are low or high, you must add soda ash to raise the level or use a pH reducer to lower the level. Then you can check the water again after a few hours to make sure that the other chemical levels are safe. This is an important part of pool maintenance.

Water Testing with Copper Pools Kit

Is Copper The New Gold?

Many people invest in precious metal commodities such as gold and silver but not everyone considers non-precious base metals like copper and nickel. Unlike precious metals, the prices of base metals are more related to the health of an economy than emotion or world events. Another appealing thing about investing in base metals as the amount of capital involved is considerably less than precious metals.

What does the future hold for copper? Obviously nobody has a crystal ball but if we look at history first, we may get a glance into what the future might hold. In the 1990's, copper prices realized some significant increases due mostly to strong demand from telephone companies who were building copper infrastructure prior to the explosion of fibre optic construction. This increase in infrastructure spend resulted in a glut of copper when the telecom industry fell upon hard times and also when fibre started to replace copper.

CHOPPER PRICES

Fast forward to today and we are seeing an unprecedented demand for copper when we look at growing infrastructure demands from emerging economies such as China and India. As wealth is built in these economies, the demand for infrastructure increases exponentially and when we consider materials such as copper for use in electrical wiring and plumbing, one can predict that the demand for copper should continue to increase.

For the investor interested in copper as an investment, there are many methods to consider for investing. One can try and determine the best metal stocks to purchase but doing statistical analysis on commodities. Since copper is so closely tied to the health of the economy, another investment to consider could be index ETF's or mutual funds. Another means of investment would be to purchase copper bars or bouillon.

Another seemingly less sophisticated means of investing in copper but my no means less effective is to collect pre 1982 pennies. Many people may not be aware of this but pennies made prior to 1982 are made from pure copper whereas pennies made after 1982 are only coated in copper. This may sound insignificant but to illustrate the value of this, a pre-1982 penny is current worth 2.9 cents in it's weight of pure copper! This equates to basically 3 times the penny's face value and could conceivably increase as copper is in higher demand.

Another interesting thing to consider about copper is that it may play a significant role in future purchasing as the US dollar and other currencies continue to lose value. Many experts agree that fiat currencies (basically paper currencies) all lose value over time but a commodity such as a base metal or precious metal do not. The challenge with using gold for example as a currency is that is almost too valuable. If you needed to make a small purchase and all you had was an ounce of gold, this would not be ideal. It would be like purchasing a chocolate bar with a 00 bill! Metals such as copper on the other hand that have a traditionally lower value per ounce would make an ideal metal for smaller purchases.

In closing, base metals such as copper may not be nearly as sexy as gold or silver but in the long run, a commodity that has a real use in construction and one that is tied to the world economy should continue to be in demand. As with any investment, the key to success is education and knowing what you are doing. There are many books available as well as online information on how to invest in copper and other metals.

Custom Built Chopper Motorcycles

"Whose motorcycle is this?"

"Its not a motorcycle baby, it's a chopper."

CHOPPER PRICES

"Whose chopper is this"

"Its Zeds chopper baby."

"Who is Zed?"

"Zeds dead baby, Zeds dead."

Now, most of us who were alive during the Nineties remember this scene from the classic American film, Pulp Fiction. I remember watching this movie for the first time and then wondering to myself, "What the hell is a difference between a chopper and a motorcycle?" This was before shows like American Chopper and Monster Garage came on to the scene and helped educate the public on the difference between a motorcycle and a custom built chopper.

A chopper is pretty much a motorcycle that had been customized, or "chopped" to give it individuality. The practice of building custom motorcycle choppers started sometime after World War Two when the biker culture began. Veterans came back from Europe, and found the big clunky motorcycles built by Harley Davidson and Indian unsatisfactory when compared to the lighter, faster European bikes. They decided to change the bikes by removing anything and everything that was unnecessary. They began to shorten, or remove the fenders to give the bike a sleeker look and the term "chopper" was born.

The custom-built chopper motorcycle evolved further during the sixties and seventies. Bikers began removing everything that was deemed unnecessary and replacing everything that seemed too big. Out went the windshield, the big blinkers and the big seats. The began raking the front wheel, so that it extended further out from the bike, giving the motorcycle a "cool" look and raising the handle bars higher. These customized motorcycles began to morph away from anything that was factory standard and became unique as each owner tailored their individual bike to what they deemed necessary.

The chopper took on an American Iconic status after the release of "Easy Rider" in 1969. Soon thereafter, the idea of a custom built motorcycle left the realm of the outlaw biker and entered the domain of the typical American. Soon, talented designers opened their own customizing shops replacing the guy in the backyard who put together bikes for fun. People started going to these shops to get their customized choppers instead of building it themselves.

As the baby boomer generation began to age, the demand for these nostalgic symbols of individuality began to rise. Soon, custom-built motorcycles were being produced and sold for exorbitant prices. Choppers were no longer the vehicles for the outlaw biker. They had instead become the status symbol for the weekend hobbyist with expendable income. Still, when I see one of these bankers going through a midlife crises flying down the freeway on a Chopper I cannot help but feel a shiver of danger and rebellion.

Streams of Living Water - A Fun Scripture Activity For Your Elementary Kids

John 7:38 says, "Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." (NIV) What a perfect Scripture for some water fun - relay style!

dixie cups

For this activity you will break your kids into 2 teams and you will need to gather these following items: two drinking cups that can hold about 2 cups of water, a package of "Dixie" cup size cups, 2 one gallon buckets filled with water, two stable chairs, and two sets of 19 Ziploc sandwich baggies each containing one word of John 7:38 including the reference.

DIXIE

Now take your kids outside in their bathing suits or water attire and divide them up into their teams. Have the first child in each team lay down on the ground with their legs part way under one of the chairs holding the drinking cup on their stomach. The rest of the team will stand behind their child who is lying down. When you say, "Go!" the first child by the bucket will fill their "Dixie" cup with some water and get up on the chair as quickly as he can then pour his amount of water into the cup held by the child lying down. Each successive child in the relay line repeats the process.

The goal of each team is to fill the drinking cup held by the child lying down. The first team to do this then races over to the other end of the playing area where you will have the Ziploc baggies laying out ready for the team to put the verse in correct order. The first team to do this, wins! Now it's time to play it all over again with a new child lying down.

Gas Station Dolls

You can find them by the dozens at almost every doll show. Those hard plastic dolls from the 1950's. They have no markings, most only have joints in the arms, and the clothes are often missing or in poor condition. They are called Gas Station dolls because many gas stations gave them away as promotional items with a tankful of gas. The same sort of dolls also came with boxes of chocolates or other promotional gimmicks.

My Aunt Shirley collected this type of doll. Now, my Aunt Shirley wasn't your normal grown-up kind of aunt. They didn't have labels in those days for people like my aunt, but even as a very small child, I understood that although Aunt Shirley was as old as my mother, she really was just a little kid like me.

DIXIE

Friends and relatives would bring Shirley dolls as gifts when they came to visit, or after they had been traveling. It was never hard to know what she would like for her birthday or for Christmas. Each doll that arrived would be oohed and awed over, and then carefully placed in a spot of honor inside a glass fronted display case in the living room.

I remember standing in front of that case looking at all those beautiful dolls. My fingers just itched to touch them and play with them. But I knew with out doubt that I didn't dare even open those doors, or I would risk the wrath of a whole household of grown-ups. It just didn't seem fair that all those wonderful dolls were just to look at and never to play with.

Many years later, I inherited some of those same dolls that I had admired through glass. As an adult, I was totally unaware of their value. To me they were still precious things to be guarded from grubby little fingers. An occasion came up where a doll appraiser came to our small community, and offered her services for free appraisals. I took my treasured "antique" dolls to be appraised in some hidden room in the bottom of the local public library.

I have to say I was surprised, but not really disappointed, in the response of the appraiser. She explained to me how these dolls were commonly given away with a tank of gas, and that they can be found in great numbers and therefore have very little if any monetary value. In that moment, my childhood view was somehow shaken, as I realized how many people had tried to bring a little pleasure to my aunt's life, and that by treating their gifts as treasure's, they somehow were letting Aunt Shirley feel that she was a treasure too.

Although my little Gas Station dolls are not worth lots of money, They are some of my favorite pieces in my collection of family memories and heirlooms.

Gas Station Dolls

I have to admit a secret. I've never grown out of playing with dolls. I've been fascinated with making dolls much of my adult years. I've experimented with different forms, materials, and tools, and have never lost the need for making playthings in the shape of the human body. Sometimes I strive for realism, other times I seem to need to make dolls as tiny as my skills can allow. In the hopes that others might enjoy my doll designs, I created Small Doll World to market my line of doll making kits. Each kit includes an original doll design and pattern, and all the materials needed to create the doll. I call my kits Pixie Dixie Doll kits, named after my niece, Diana, who Grandpa called the original Pixie Dixie. You can view my kits at www.smalldollworld.com [http://www.smalldollworld.com]

Lake Texoma Fall Challenge

Over the weekend the Little Dixie Bass Club from Durant and the Texoma Bass Club out of Sherman held their annual Challenge. Eleven teams fished the event and the Red River Trophy was awarded to the club that caught the heaviest weight of fish per team. Each boat was allowed a five fish limit of bass that included largemouth, smallmouth or spotted bass.

The Oklahoma club prevailed for the third consecutive year and to our dismay, is getting used to the trophy sitting on their mantle. With an average of 7.29 pounds per boat, the Little Dixie Bass Club won another year of bragging rights over the 5.97 pounds per boat brought in by Texoma Bass Club.

DIXIE

The Texas team of Rick White and Dave Youngblood however, had the best stringer of the day with a limit of 10.46 pounds of bass. Finishing second was David Kenney and Garry Wells of the Little Dixie bass club who weighed in 9.26 pounds. The third best stringer went to Shane Allison and Buck Buchanan of Texoma Bass Club who caught 9.06 pounds. Big bass of the tournament also went to Buck Buchanan with a 3.70 pound largemouth.

The morning water temperature was right at 59 degrees but warmed to 62 by the three o'clock weigh-in. Most of our fish were caught in 2 to 5 feet of water on, pearl white Zoom super flukes and Bomber crank-baits. During the weigh-in at the East Burns Run Camp Grounds on the Oklahoma side of the lake, most of the anglers agreed on catching their fish on rocky banks. While some caught bass in marinas, many stayed on the main lake casting shad mimicking lures around chunk rocks to fill their limits.

Overall the bass fishing has been uncharacteristically tough this fall on Lake Texoma. All tournament weights have been lower than in the past couple of years. For example, Mike Pharr won the Bassmaster Central Open last month with a three day total of nine fish for 27 pounds. The last time BASS was on Texoma in the fall of 2008, Terry Butcher won the event with a three day total of fifteen bass for 46 pounds.

Many local anglers attribute the low output of bass this fall due the weather over the past 12 months. Last winter was one of the coldest on record and dropped water temperatures into the thirties, killing a large population of threadfin shad. The extreme heat last summer also killed some game fish on the lake due to poor dissolved oxygen levels.

The weather man is predicting a cold Thanksgiving Day for later in the week. Hopefully this will have a positive effect on the bass fishing. Be safe on the lake, for those of you that will enjoy the holiday weekend on the water. For those of you waking up early for Black Friday, make sure to dress warm in your efforts to catch the deal of the year.

How the Weather Affects Your Plastic, Cast Iron Or Copper Gutters

Whether they're plastic, cast iron, or copper gutters, rainwater systems are in place to protect homes from the weather and the potential damage it can do to homes and other buildings. It's unfortunate then, that the very weather your plastic, cast iron or copper gutters are protecting you and your home from may be damaging your gutters in ways you may not even be able to see. This damage could lead to untold problems in the future.

If you're lucky and sensible in equal parts, you consulted a professional when you had your current gutters fitted. This means it's likely that the weather conditions where you live were taken into consideration when the correct rainwater system for your home and circumstances was chosen.

CHOPPER PRICES

We generally believe that since our plastic, cast iron or copper gutters are there to protect us from the weather, they themselves cannot be harmed by it. That is not necessarily true, depending on the type of gutter and the type of weather to which they're exposed. When exposed to large hailstones or falling tree branches, plastic gutters may crack and snap whilst aluminium gutters may dent. Cast iron gutters and copper gutters are stronger and will not be affected in this way.

Similarly, where temperatures fluctuate a lot, aluminium and to a lesser degree cast iron gutters will expand and contract. This may ultimately lead to cracking. Plastic and copper gutters aren't troubled with this problem.
Rust is a large potential problem for cast iron gutters, since they are by their very nature exposed to water so often. And aluminium rainwater systems may potentially come loose from their fittings if the metal is exposed to other metals. These problems do not present themselves with plastic or copper gutters.

General wear and tear from the weather, particularly the wind and any extreme temperatures really takes its toll on rainwater systems. Plastic and aluminium gutters fare the worst in bad weather conditions, they are likely to require replacement within fifteen years. Fortunately, for those circumstances where the weather may pose a threat to rainwater systems' efficacy, cast iron and copper gutters, when properly maintained are extremely resistant to the weather and extremely durable. The weather resistance offered by any rainwater system should be taken into consideration along with its price when making a choice.

Where to Get Scrap Copper Prices

Copper has occupied a prominent space in the global market as it has become one of the most important industrial metals. Like most metals, it is scarce and obtaining it is an arduous and dangerous task. Thus, because of its high demand, even recyclable or recycled copper prices have increased.

Copper is an important material or component used in automobile, electronics and construction industries. As more and more automobiles are manufactured and more and more rural areas are developed, the demand for it also increases. But because it takes a lot of effort and money to acquire fine copper, automobile and electronic companies opt recycle this metal commodity to save money.

CHOPPER PRICES

Copper prices are monitored by the London Metal Exchange. From copper mines in Latin America, this nonferrous metal weighs in at more than ,000 per ton. Two years ago, the price of copper was around USD per pound. Recycled copper prices run about half of their refined counterpart. Because of its high value, sellers or investors should find opportunities in cashing in on this recyclable metal.

Buyers and sellers of recycled copper can browse through the web to compare scrap prices. The United States, China, European Union, Korea, Brazil and also countries that have been known to operate copper mining have websites that provide updated prices for scrap copper. Many of U.S. websites also offer free daily market rates and updates from Detroit, Michigan and the northeastern part of the United States; which are the two major suppliers of industrial and automotive metals, such as copper. Currently, the U.S. offers the highest scrap copper price at about .25 per pound.

As with most metal commodities, the prices of copper fluctuate or change daily. But to find the accurate price of copper, there are also local websites that are dedicated to give you the current prices of scrap copper and other relevant information. If you are selling your scrap copper, make sure to know what kind of scrap copper you have. Search or call your local recycling plant or junk shops and ask for their prices. Then, compare their prices with the prices at the London Metal Exchange to determine if you are getting a fair or good price for your scrap copper.

Aside from the London Metal Exchange, other reliable sources for accurate copper pricing are websites dedicated for scrap metal auctions. In such websites, copper scrap brokers and government agencies working with construction or demolition companies hold auctions either to buy copper scrap for future projects or sell excess.

Comparing Metal Awning Materials - A Look at Copper, Iron and Aluminum

Outdoor awnings offer today's consumers a lot of choices for decorating options, but metal awnings are considered the most durable and arguably the better value. You can choose from a variety of materials, including aluminum, iron and copper. But when comparing these choices, copper awnings stand out as the clear choice for function, durability and style.

Why choose a metal awning?

CHOPPER PRICES

Metal awnings are superior to canvas and wooden awnings because they last longer, require less maintenance and provide greater protection from the elements, especially rain and sun.  However, they are not all created equal.

Choices in for outdoor awnings include:

Iron and Steel - Iron, especially wrought iron awnings provide a classic, stylish look that makes sense for certain types of architectural designs but not often with contemporary or modern building styles.  And although they are considered very durable, they tend to be heavier awnings which sometimes limits where they can be used.

Aluminum - Aluminum awnings are quite common because the material is lightweight, fairly inexpensive, provides good rain flow, and strong sun protection.  However while these awnings are functional, they aren't always the best looking product you can find.

Copper - Copper awnings combine the best of both worlds - unbeatable function and durability and high-end style. Copper awnings also represent a great long-term investment in your building. Not only are they the most durable metal awnings, they actually look better as they age!

Other considerations: durability and style

Copper awnings provide the lowest maintenance of any of these choices - resisting mildew and decay while providing superior sun protection.  And as copper is exposed to the elements, it turns different shades and colors.  This rich-looking patina protects the copper underneath from corrosion, damage and natural wear and tear.

Metal awnings are a great investment to protect your doors and windows from sun and rain.  There are a lot of metal options, including iron or steel, aluminum and copper.  If you're interested in combining functionality, style and value, then copper awnings stand out as the best option.

Copper Set to Soar to New Highs

The stock market has seen a massive transformation in the way money has been distributed between technology stocks and commodity stocks in the recent months. Savvy technology investors who have never before invested in commodity stocks have begun to speculate and put their money in this "hot" industry. As a result, commodity stocks have exploded to 52-week highs and dizzying heights. These new highs created instability in the commodity market and a correction was inevitable.

Unfortunately, this recent correction happened at a very inopportune time. Many momentum and inexperienced investors bought commodity stocks at their highs and have since seen a 25 to 50 percent decline in stock prices within the last two weeks. This recent correction was worsened by media panic, a "bubble bursting", margin calls, and those inexperienced investors who bought at the top.

CHOPPER PRICES

The difference between the technology "bubble" and this supposed commodity "bubble" is that the technology bubble was not related to fundamental supply and demand. Commodities are needed in today's expanding global economy and there will not be a surplus anytime soon. Copper, which is my area of expertise, is estimated to have about 3 days of supply in storage. Other commodities are experiencing the same supply constraints and therefore commodity prices should be able to be sustained in the future. While there may still be some short-term volatility in the commodity market due to overreactions by worried investors who are underwater, the commodity market should be healthy and provide solid gains for years to come.

So, which copper stocks should you buy? Personally I like a company called Northern Orion Resources (NTO). NTO has seen a recent pullback in its stock price which has created a very attractive buying opportunity.

NTO is my personal favorite for several reasons. As of May 22, 2006 they are trading at .72 per share and are expected to make $.38 per share this year. NTO mines mainly copper and gold and have a new mine coming into production in the coming years called Agua Rica. Agua Rica is projected to have 21.8 billion pounds of copper, 13.3 million ounces of gold, and 1.7 billion pounds of molybdenum. At today's prices, Agua Rica is worth around 0 billion. Considering NTO currently has a market cap of 0 million, it is definitely an investment worth looking into.
