The Gates - TV Show Review

I love shows about Vampires and Werewolves. I only wish once in a while they would throw in some zombies or mermaids. I can picture how the pitch meeting for The Gates went at the ABC Studio: "It's Desperate Housewives with Supernatural Powers!"

I loved Desperate Housewives during the first season but I thought it lost some steam once all the mysteries were uncovered and the authors plan ran out. Now Lost is a show that managed to find a new plan once it's original plan lost it's steam. Heroes is an example of a show that didn't turn out so well after it reached the end of the plan. The Gates is a serial mythology show so I'm not sure how it will turn out in it's second season.

But the first season is pretty good. There's vampires, werewolves, and a whole lot more. There's tons of good mysteries. I think it's definitely worth watching for one season and then it may be worthwhile for a second season depending on how well the show's creators planned ahead.

There's usually a good 5 story lines being flipped upon between a show which is pretty standard but it's not crazy Oz levels (which tended to feature like 20 stories on a two hour show) so good if you don't have a long attention span.

No show's going to change your life but The Gates will certainly change your level of enjoyment in a positive direction for 43 minutes. This is one show worth sticking your teeth into (or watching during a full moon).
